Forget what you did
10 Apr 2019
This is a bit of a strange post.
A couple of months ago, Karl Lagerfeld - who I only knew of as a clothing designer - died. I don’t generally care about fashion, but when I heard about his biting wit, I was intrigued.
What spoke to me was this quote:
“I have a sort of Alzheimer’s for my own work, which I think is a very good thing. Today too many people remember what they did – just forget it all and start again.”
I suppose this is another way to say “don’t rest on your laurels”. Or, maybe “what have you done for me lately”.
It’s easy to recall how you wrote some cool code, but now it is included in a library or worse, with a compiler. Just forget it.
For better or worse, modern development requires constant learning and self-improvement.
